The key to every Geico commercial you see like this is that it starts off by being about something that is completely 180 degrees different than insurance.
"I realize I love you but as long as you are with Jessica there can never be anything between us"
The Reveal Statement
The video then pivots 180 degrees back to insurance to deliver the reveal statement.
"I just saved a load of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico"
The key to the effectiveness of this campaign is the simplicity and the consistency with which they deliver the solution statement (tagline).
"15 Minutes could save you 15% or more on your car insurance"
If you are going to consider this type of campaign make sure you have a super simple and effective solution statement, ideally one with specific numbers or metrics like 15 minutes and 15 percent.
In the Geico videos, the setting is really important. The more believable your setting the more believable your opening attention grabber will be--so invest in finding the right setting for each video.
If you are going to run a campaign like Geico does it may be most effective to get a fresh faced set of actors for every video you do.
Don't be shy about getting customers, employees, or friends to be your actors.
